What challenges face young professionals seeking leadership?
I interviewed 13 individuals from a variety of industries from Indiana Business Journal's 40 under 40 list. They shared their personal challenges and what they observe young leaders struggling with today in their quest for leadership. I created a gigamap to illustrate and synthesize the data. By clearly understanding these challenges we are able to reframe new opportunities for early leadership development.
The final gigamap shows the challenges and synthesis from the design research. The final product was 5 feet wide by 8 feet tall.
Interviews were conducted with the leaders to gather challenge themes. Many of the challenges are behavior and attitude based.
Based on the insights gathered from the stakeholders, you must first know yourself before you can be true to yourself. In order to know yourself you have to be able to balance the other challenges that present themselves throughout your experience as a leader. Many of the challenges contradict each other, which is why finding a balance between them is crucial.
